Description
As reported by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, cold injuries, such as frostbite, trench foot, and frostnips, or cold-induced injuries, such as loss of cognition leading to falls, can happen to anyone exposed to cold temperatures. International Fabric Machines (IFM) has developed a wireless and battery-free functional-fiber fabric-based temperature sensing system (fID-T) that supervisors/medics can use to remotely identify workers/soldiers with dangerously low foot and/or hand temperatures or any body regions that are at-risk of cold injuries. This information will then enable timely, targeted interventions, such as increasing physical activity and changing socks and/or glove liners, which will significantly reduce the risk of frostbite and maintain optimal worker/soldier and small unit performance.
