Description

Quantum dots (QDs) are nanoparticles with unique properties that have the potential to be used in a many consumer-facing applications. QDs have bright narrow-band luminescence, and can produce more accurate color reproduction and brighter displays.  Further, QDs can be integrated into flexible or biocompatible displays which create opportunities for a future with many new paradigms of display technologies to improve information provided a warfighter, or for enhancements of people’s daily lives.  Current manufacturing processes of QD displays are limited in pixel resolutions they are able to produce.  Assembly processes using biological mechanisms can potentially be used to create micro-scale ordered QD pixel arrays for RGB display screens.  In response to this defined need for innovative manufacturing processes to improve QD LED screens, Luna Labs is proposing a unique bioassembly strategy to create ordered RGB pixel arrays for functional, flexible display screens.  This pixel generation strategy will rely on existing 3D printing technoilogies for producing flexible QD LED displays for a hybrid manufacturing system relying on two parallel assembly tracks.  Luna’s technology will be an inexpensive and scalable technology suited to development of advanced QD-LED displays.
