Description

Ammonium perchlorate is the traditional oxidizer component used in solid propellants of a considerable number of rocket systems by both DoD and civilian companies. Ammonium perchlorate is often used in conjunction with aluminum and butadiene-based binders to formulate the solid propellant by increasing operating pressures and burn rates. Civilian space flight and military needs have steadily increased demands for ammonium perchlorate placing an increased strain on supply chains. As such, there is a significant need to identify a replacement oxidizer to ammonium perchlorate that enhances stability of the future supply chain and provides opportunity for performance enhancement of next generation solid propulsion systems. Lynntech proposes to develop a novel green insensitive oxidizer to serve as a replacement for ammonium perchlorate and provide improved energetic output of fuel systems using the new oxidizer. It is the intent of this new oxidizer to improve the specific impulse, speed, and distance the solid fuel formulations systems using this new greener oxidizer can achieve while stabilizing the future supply chain for the fuel grade oxidizer.
