Description
To meet the demands of the A22B-T014 “Terahertz Radar-on-Chip” program, the MaXentric Technologies (MaXentric) / University of Michigan (UMich) team proposes the TORCH (Terahertz Observant Radar on Chip with High-definition), which provides a low cost radar-on-chip operating at the terahertz frequencies with millimeter range resolution and low power consumption based on integrated circuit technologies. The team leverages the UMich’s terahertz radar IC technology, including their single-antenna autodyne architecture, and MaXentric’s MIMO radar technology. During Phase I, the team will identify IC technology nodes with device characteristics, perform trade-study of radar system parameters, and design initial circuits implement including antenna. Toward Phase II proposal, the team will make a plan for developing and demonstrating prototypes of a radar-on-chip with the detection range of >100 m and the range resolution of ~1 mm.
