Description
Physical Sciences Inc. proposes to develop safe Insensitive Munition (IM) Compliant, high performance solid rocket propellants for advanced interceptor capabilities with significantly increased delta-v. PSI’s innovative propellant formulations capitalize on novel ingredient technologies that provide an increase in specific impulse (Isp) relative to state-of-the-art aluminized Hydroxyl-Terminated Polybutadiene/Ammonium Perchlorate (HTPB/AP) composite propellants. The Phase I effort will focus on propellant safety, thermal stability, and ballistic performance assessments for several candidate high Isp formulations. Phase II will focus on formulation down-selection, mixing scale-up, and evaluation of mechanical strength properties, IM characteristics, burn rate pressure sensitivity, and performance in a small-scale 2x4 rocket motor.
