Description
The goal of this fast-track Phase II project is to demonstrate DFARS 225.7018 compliant, sintered neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) N42 grade permanent magnets that meet ASTM Designation ND-SA-333/955 at pilot production scale. Powdermet will work closely with a motor stator manufacturer to will develop key performance criteria and develop and demonstrate pilot production of 50-100kg of permanent magnets for use in military application for propulsion systems. This motor stator manufacturer currently supplies assemblies for defense applications, and is required to source non-Chinese magnets, limiting it's supply, as >95% of the worlds rare earths currently come from China. Key deliverables include machined, coated and magnetized magnets to customer specifications delivered for inspection at the end of the program, as well as a preliminary scale up plan and costs for full scale production to supply domestic defense and commercial markets.
