Description
ResCon Technologies and Infinity Labs offer a game-changing solution to inertial measurement unit (IMU) error correction using a novel machine language (ML) algorithm known as a next-generation reservoir computer (NG-RC). An NG-RC can learn and predict the trajectory of a dynamical system using very small training data sets and minimal computation time. Through our work with the US Air Force, we have shown that training time can be on the millisecond time scale for a demanding task using lightweight computers such as those found in embedded systems, with prediction times on the microsecond scale. Furthermore, NG-RCs are effective noise filters and can readily fuse data sources such as GNSS or celestial navigation data. Finally, an NG-RC can be retrained during flight to adapt to individual IMU bias and scale factor drift using global navigation satellite system (GNSS) or celestial data when available. These attributes indicate that an NG-RC may indeed be a viable replacement for Extended Kalman Filters (EKFs) in navigation systems. Approved for Public Release | 22-MDA-11215 (27 Jul 22)
