Description
We propose to create a method and supporting automation for model-based supply for specialty and fine chemicals to virtually discover and configure supply chains. In this SBIR Phase II, we will focus enhancement, verification, and validation of the functional prototype we developed in Phase I to a pre-commercial platform. A world leader with $486 billion in shipments, the United States is the second-largest chemical producing nation after China.1 Chemistry touches more than 25% of the U.S. gross domestic product (USGDP) and affects more than 96% of all manufactured goods - including pharmaceuticals - that are essential to American prosperity. We will focus development effort on use cases in the U.S. fine chemicals and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries. Significant challenges have already been identified on the near-term horizon, such as other therapeutics in short supply.2 This new framework will be both efficient and readily amenable to other advances including energy efficiency, waste minimization, and inventory/distribution optimization.
