Description
Secure, safe, and fully functional software upgrades will be a key enabler in the On-Orbit Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (OSAM) market. This market will enable complex space systems to be upgraded while on orbit, extending their lifespans at a fraction of the cost of launching a replacement system. Under Orbital Prime OSAM Phase 3 “On-orbit Object Servicing” objective physical hardware replacement of components will occur enabling life extension of systems. However it is just as critical that when the hardware is upgraded that the on-orbit system’s software is also upgraded. Tangram Flex (Tangram) and University of Southern California (USC) Information Sciences Institute (ISI) are working to ensure that U.S. Space Force (USSF) and commercial companies can rapidly, securely, and confidently upgrade on-orbit software components such that the system functions as intended and is cyber secure.
