Description
The ability to deliver oxygen individually to patients requiring supplemental oxygen in an efficient manner is an essential part of treatment for combat casualties who incur traumatic injuries. In this SBIR project TDA Research is developing a modular (stackable), compact, lightweight, ruggedized POC (referred to as the miniPOC) to provide medical grade oxygen for deployed medical facilities and personnel, during Army Combat Casualty Care Operations. In Phase I, we designed a lightweight ruggedized medical oxygen concentrator (TDA’s miniPOC) that generates >10 LPM of USP grade O2, using two autonomous units stacked together, each of which can individually deliver 6 LPM O2 product at > 90% purity. We showed that the weight of the OCM before ruggedization, excluding the battery will be between 5-6 lbs, which is significantly less than the competing systems, and our unit consumes significantly less power at < 30W/LPM. In Phase II we will further develop the ruggedized stackable portable oxygen generator, demonstrate its utility, and validate the prototype(s) through relevant rigorous testing at extreme operating conditions (>40°C, <0°C, humidity > 90%, 10,000 ft elevation). We will carry out tests at a 3rd party laboratory, demonstrating the operational capability of the system to meet the DHA requirements such as MIL STD, JECETS.
