Description

Triton proposes to design and develop an orthosis that adapts to facilitate recovery during rehabilitation for lower extremity injuries so that service members can return to duty. Using this device for the duration of the rehabilitation process is anticipated to result in improved outcomes, accelerated recovery times, and cost savings compared to the standard rehabilitation approach, which can include fabrication and/or purchase of multiple devices throughout recovery. Triton’s previously demonstrated orthotic device, which was designed to immobilize and offload an injured ankle, provides the platform from which this novel adaptive rehabilitation orthotic will be derived. Triton will generate mechanical (device durability and strength) and biomechanical (kinematics, kinetics, and user feedback) testing outcomes to both demonstrate capabilities and efficacy of our technology and to provide end-user insights for iterative improvements for the device. This proposal includes plans to transition the resulting orthosis to a viable product and includes a description of our approach to achieving FDA regulatory approval.
