Description

This second Phase II proposal has three primary R&D objectives. The first objective is to support parallel and distributed execution in the WarpIV Kernel of DEVS models that are defined using RTSync’s CAMLI tool. DEVS models created from RTSync’s CAMLI tool will be able to (1) execute in parallel in the WarpIV Kernel with scalable performance, (2) interoperate with native composable WarpIV models, (3) interoperate with legacy SPEEDES simulations such as I-SIM, (4) interoperate with HLA federates that use the WarpIV HPC-RTI (e.g., ITASE, AFSIM, SAFE-SiM, etc.), and (5) establish a path for interoperability with OSF. The second objective is to provide improvements to the various tools and algorithms that support the development of composable models in the WarpIV Kernel. The cross-platform graphical tools in WarpIV will be matured to (1) simplify developing composable models, (2) generating executable code, (3) specifying hierarchical systems of models, and (4) laying a foundation for creating state machines and activity diagrams that follow the SysML Version 2.0 standard for supporting MBSE. The third objective is to provide support and tools for migrating models from legacy SPEEDES simulations (e.g., I- SIM) to the WarpIV Kernel. All necessary functionality for supporting simulation services used by legacy SPEEDES simulations (such as I-SIM) will be supported (e.g., the External Modeling Framework, real-time operation, working within federations, fixing problems reported by I-SIM, providing training, etc.) and new infrastructure will be developed to support mixed optimistic/conservative models. This will provide a path for I-SIM to incrementally migrate its models from conservative to optimistic time management. The benefit of this transition will be to eliminate lookahead constraints that limit how tight models can interact, while improving scalability through more aggressive (optimistic) event processing. In addition to supporting legacy SPEEDES simulations such as I-SIM, Phase II will also explore their potential interoperability with the 32 models currently provided by MDEM. This effort will pave the way for MDA digital simulations to automatically interoperate with OSF and other federated military defense programs based on the WarpIV Kernel’s HPC-RTI and LrcProxy Framework. In the near term, this means potential interoperability with large programs such as ITASE, AFSIM, SAFE-SiM, and others. Approved for Public Release | 22-MDA-11339 (13 Dec 22)
