Description
The overall goal of this Air Force effort is to develop and deliver efficient, single-pass quantum optical waveguide sources generating entangled photon pairs for use in high-rate long-distance quantum computing or quantum communications networks. The new devices will produce pulsed polarization-entangled photon pairs with high emission rate, low attenuation, and pure spectral properties necessary for synchronization and entanglement swapping, providing the key technology required for deployment of space-to-ground links and future construction of a global quantum network. An intermediate goal is to configure the waveguide sources for pulsed operation to enable synchronization for use in the Starfire Optical Range for testing entanglement distribution through atmosphere using adaptive optics. The waveguide-based technology is compact, robust, and power efficient for deployment in the field and on space-based platforms.
