Description
Corvid Technologies intends for the end products of the overall SBIR effort to be perforating munition designs with high lethality, and to clearly define fabrication approaches that are tractable as well as relatively affordable for full-scale weapons at production scales of 1000’s per year or higher. The envisioned composite designs will be a mix of materials that best allow the design priorities of lethality, perforation performance, manufacturability, and affordability to be addressed. Phase I will use simulations examine the attributes and utility of various geometry and materials combinations that provide necessary structural strength and robustness for lethal designs. We have teamed with BakerRisk® to execute testing that will involve projection of prototypes into concrete slabs at high velocities. The results from simulations and testing will act as a baseline design for refinement and system-level considerations of Phase II. Manufacturing feasibility cost will be considered in Phase I, whereas Phase II will ensure the designs are cost-effective and manufacturable with existing technology. Our partners at Boeing will provide guidance on the system level and production at scale. The designs emerging from Phase II will provide a combination of lethality and perforation performance that exceeds, in both respects, that of existing munitions.
