Description
Virtual reality (VR) provides an unparalleled means of evaluating a model at a 1:1 scale to perform asset management in lieu of a physical asset or to accelerate understanding of load paths and other analysis results through intuitive interaction. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) seeks a VR platform for visualizing and interacting with computer-aided design (CAD) and modeling and simulation (M&S) data in order to reduce the cost and improve the understanding of ground vehicle survivability, lethality, and vulnerability (SLV) design and analysis. Corvid has long understood the potential role of VR in M&S, and began developing their own visualization software in the summer of 2017. Utilizing the powerful yet flexible Unreal Engine 4 (UE4), Corvid’s Vision software is currently capable of displaying simulation data from Velodyne including quantitative results through colored contours, and by utilizing Corvid’s developed optimization techniques the software is capable of animating through dynamic results at high frame rates. The software also provides interactive methods to reposition models, probe data from contours, and control part visibility. The advanced state of its VR development will allow Corvid to deliver a working prototype of Vision to USMC at the end of Phase I.
