Description
There is a need for rapid material testing to accelerate the development of hypersonic protection materials. The technology requirements include manufacturing to facilitate high-throughput testing, as well as sensor type, accuracy and resolution to quantify the environment. Wireless, non-contact measurement can capture critical data at high throughput by avoiding tedious installation. The proposed work will develop a wireless multisensory module capable of being embedded in hypersonic test structures. The sensor suite will measure key environmental and material indicators to estimate the flow environment and the health of the thermal protection layer. The technology is based on wireless sensors that have been demonstrated for in-situ measurements to 1400C. The team has expertise in sensor development, thermal protection systems, and hypersonic testing. The team will develop the designs, fabrication, and assembly of wireless sensor prototypes into thermal protection systems.
