Description

Development programs for next-generation missiles, precision guided munitions and hypersonic platforms require system component operation be validated in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test systems which can deterministically replicate the harsh, high frequency, multiple degree-of-freedom (MDOF) vibration environment experienced in flight. Ongoing advancements in the speed, maneuverability and performance of these systems result in increasingly more arduous vibration environments that IMUs, IR seekers and other critical components must endure without degradation of performance or reliability. Current HIL motion simulation systems cannot accurately simulate the flight environments of these future weapons systems, thus cannot confidently validate component operation. Given the lead time required to develop and deliver new HIL test capability this risks delays in weapons development programs or proceeding with expensive flight tests without assured component functionality. During the Phase I SBIR effort, Etegent worked with the Air Force Research Laboratory's Munitions Directorate (AFRL/RW) and the Guided Weapons Evaluation Facility (GWEF) to define bandwidth, amplitude, control accuracy, payload and other requirements for a next generation 6-DOF, HIL motion simulation capability, and developed a plan to apply Etegent’s high bandwidth/ high accuracy motion simulation technologies to develop and transition a system to address this critical Air Force and DoD need.
