Description
The Air Force conducts monthly fuel system flushing operations in its constant-pressure closed-loop hydrant systems to remove unwanted solids, water, and microbial contamination. This is a time-consuming and manpower-intensive process without clear specifications to indicate successful completion. To improve hydrant flushing activities, FTL Labs proposes HyFli (Hydraulic Flushing Imager), a new sensor system with both an in-line and a quick connect design to continually monitor, analyze, and report real-time solids (mg/l), water(ppm), and microbial (level) changes during fuel hydrant system pipeline flushing operations. HyFli is adaptable to a variety of points on the hydrant piping during flushing operations, including downstream filtration and prior to product return, to ensure that continued flushing is improving fuel cleanliness and quality. Finally, HyFli will be certified to safely operate alongside fuel in NFPA and ATEX environments.
