Description

Airborne Deployed HCB (High-Capacity Backbone) for Overhead Connectivity (ADHOC) is a low-cost, robust, expendable communications and networking system that can be rapidly deployed from a variety of aircraft to create a high-altitude, high-bandwidth communications web to support weapons datalink and ISR and targeting data exchange.  ADHOC is designed to be released in the sky and operated from beneath a high-altitude balloon system for 24+ hours. Each ADHOC node would form together with additional nodes to create a meshed communications network.  Global Air Logistics and Training, Inc (GALT) proposes a Phase I research to include an Investigative Feasibility Study, coupled with a deep, detailed, Model-Based System Engineering effort, to identify all technology gaps to be ready for Phase II rapid prototyping. GALT has assembled a team of relevant communications, balloon, and aerospace mechanical engineers to make ADHOC a reality.  Upon completion of the study, GALT proposes a simulated demonstration consisting of an interoperable network between a simulated weapon, launch platform, sensor, and ADHOC nodes.  Assuming follow-on Phase II funding, the solution showcased could be rapidly prototyped and eventually integrated across the joint weapons employment enterprise in follow-on efforts to improve effective target elimination through a robust, ad hoc communications network.
