Project Summary Hagen Logistics LLCSBIR Title: Improving Food Safety and Security via Blockchain Technology to Track TankerWashes and Commodity History for Liquid Food Grade and Dairy IndustriesPrincipal Investigator: Jared Wallace BS General Manager Hagen LogisticsCollaborators:Tim Leonard Owner CST TransportationWoody Wallace MS Principal and Owner Centralus LLCEarthling Interactive Software DeveloperHagen Logistics (HL) proposes innovative use of blockchain and distributed ledger technology asa solution for freight shippers to track trace and efficiently certify liquid food grade and dairytransportation (known as liquid freight) and for regulators to have accurate information from whichto certify or ensure food safety and security. This innovative solution will transform how tankwashes and commodity tracking occurs first in this segment of the nation's food supply and laterexpanded to serve other industry sectors. The origin of this innovation stems from identification of customer needs through HL's directinvolvement in the liquid freight transportation market as a brokerage a milk transfer station atank wash and two trucking companies specializing in liquid freight transport. The innovativesolution relies onnovel use of Blockchain/distributed ledger technology designed to trace thewash and commodity hauling history of tankers used to haul liquid freight. Data resulting from theproject will describe presence of allergens potential for cross contamination quality assuranceand verification that trailer certifications (e.g. Kosher certification Halal certification etc.) havebeen maintained through the chain of custody by accurately and securely recording commoditiestransported and trailer wash history.HL's Phase I summary objectives include: selecting a backbone system and modeling transactionworkflow; developing a mobile app or functional wireframe implement the workflow; andtesting/validating the outcome in a commercial setting. Methods include creating a novel dataretrieval system that assembles data from multiple systems.
