Description
The deadly COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the globe. Airborne pathogens SARS-CoV-2 can survive in the air we breathe for hours, so virus-fighting technologies must be implemented quickly to stop the spread and prevent future pandemics. Integrated Viral Protection Solutions LLC is developing an innovative solution – Biodefense Indoor Air Protection SystemTM, that can catch and kill the coronavirus with a specialized heated filter made from a high-performance metal foam. The filter’s high temperatures instantaneously eliminate the pathogen without significantly heating the ambient air. This scientifically proven air disinfection system using heat, UVC, and high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) technologies that enhance existing HVAC filtration is safe, effective, and designed to be installed at home and in commercial air conditioners and mobile units, airplanes, mass transit, and public venues to provide clean air and sense of security to travel, work, be in the hospital, and return our children to school. For this SBIR Phase I project, we propose to develop a portable, battery-powered unit for airmen personal use during the mission with the throughput of at least 1,800 cubic feet per hour to catch and kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus at an efficiency higher than 99.9%.
