Description

We propose to customize a proven IoT environmental monitoring device, the Canary-S, and use it to support Bioenvironmental units on AFBs through the adaptation of Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), Fighter Index of Thermal Stress (FITS), and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (CBRND) sensors. Traditional methods are expensive, inflexible, and labor intensive, as expressed in observations and information gathered from end-users during Lunar Outpost’s previous SBIR effort that included on-base Phase II trials. Additionally, those methods lack the end-to-end integration necessary to create a system that not only senses parameters of interest, but also relays the real-time data and sends alerts to users automatically. The shortcomings of existing technology provide an opportunity to vastly improve on-base monitoring systems and ultimately save the Air Force (AF) time and money that is orders of magnitude above what is needed to implement the proposed solution.
