Description

The US Air Force has a demand for secure wireless communication technologies to replace existing cable-based solutions in and around aircraft. V-Band wireless systems are ideal for meeting this need: oxygen absorption at 60GHz adds an extra layer of security and the small wavelength (5mm) allows for very small device and antenna sizes. In response to this opportunity, MaXentric is proposing a V-band communication system codenamed VICCE (V-Band Inter Cockpit Communication Equipment). During the Phase I effort, MaXentric will develop a V-Band communication system that leverages emerging V-Band components. MaXentric will use a simulation-driven tradespace study to optimize the design’s ability to operate in channels in and around the aircraft. MaXentric will also perform V-band testing and demonstration of key VICCE features using previously developed MaXentric V-band hardware. At the end of Phase I, a detailed blueprint for a future prototype will be delivered to the Air Force. By deploying the VICCE system for short range communication in and around the aircraft, ground crew and aircrew will be able to more safely and effectively perform their roles.
