Description
Fast low-loss optical switches capable of continuously variable coupling ratios between the two inputs/outputs are in great demand for radio-frequency applications on avionic platforms. NP Photonics proposes to develop a compact and robust 2×2 optical switch based on our unique magneto-optical fiber technology and micro-optics packaging capability. In the Phase I program, we will demonstrate the feasibility of developing a fast optical switch at 1.55 microns based on magneto-optical fiber. Fast low-loss uninterrupted optical switches at 1.55 microns, meeting or exceeding the requirements of the Navy’s applications, will be developed and delivered in Phase II.
