Description
The focus of this program is to revolutionize tough self-decontaminating (5 minutes) coatings and structures requiring minimal service (5-years) with wear resistance suitable for demanding military environments. NanoSonic and VT each offer unique extrusion and compounding of new polymer composites with active virucidal constituents. Our team’s innovative nano-layered extrusion technique allows for variable deposition processing beyond traditional paint formulations and fragile drop-cast methods. The nano-layered approach allows for dense well-dispersed concentrations of active COVID-19 killing, virucidal, and antimicrobial agents at the surface – and within wear resistant urethanes, medical siloxanes, and engineering polymers such as PEEK, Ultem, and Tefzel. NanoSonic currently sells topcoats for naval vessels and military vehicles that meet MIL-STD UV, wear, and fluid exposure. Our team’s extrusion methodology will enable the production of films as appliques, filaments for 3D printing or electrospinning, and pellets for paint/coating formulations. To ensure dual-use commercialization and adoption within medical and military communities, we have teamed with OceanFront3D, COVID-19 CardioOncologist Staff at Ochsner Medical Center, and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. The expected outcome for the tough self-decontaminating systems include high touch building and vehicle areas by the hands, face and feet such as doorknobs, handles, steering wheels, medical curtains, floor coverings, and masks.
