Description

The purpose of this proposal will be to develop and test a new aluminosilicate/polymer composite solid-state electrolyte that can be integrated into current lithium-ion battery chemistries to mitigate fire risk while enhancing longevity, thermal resilience, and mechanical ruggedness. As part of this work, composite electrolyte samples will be made by combining an ion-conducting aluminosilicate with a polymer matrix in varying ratios. The polymer will provide improved elastic properties while also diminishing interfacial resistance for a more durable electrolyte that could be used with numerous commercially available electrode materials. The composite samples with varying ratios will be screened for maximum conductance, electrochemical stability, and thermal resilience. The company will also conduct 50 Hacking for Defense-style customer discovery interviews with Air Force stakeholders to refine the technical objectives for the project and inform future Phase II feasibility studies.
