Description

COILS allows rapid and efficient modeling of Radar Cross Section (RCS) and Infrared (IR) signatures for in-line Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) usage. For Radio Freqquency (RF) sensors, RCS signatures are often produced under the assumption of a fixed hardbody target. However, for targets that have movable control surfaces and other time-varying characteristics, a fixed hardbody model will not suffice. Modeling of IR signatures share many difficulties with RF modeling. Through a novel precomputing process, COILS represents targets in an inherently compact, parametrizable format. For conventional targets, this results in faster run times and the ability to quickly assess the impact of target variations. For targets with movable control surfaces, the same technology can be used to create dynamic signature models that can be adjusted in real time without pre-scripting. The overall development plan for the proposed Phase II SBIR would be to leverage previous COILS technology and adapt the fundamentals to the unique problems addressing signature modeling for targets with movable control surfaces and other time varying characteristics.
