Description

Northstrat’s proposal for the US Navy’s Naval Sea Systems (NAVSEA) N211-046 SBIR Topic, “Undersea Warfare Decision Support System Coalition Data Parser & Advanced Display” details how Northstrat envisions helping to address shortcomings in the AN/UYQ 100 Undersea Warfare Decision Support System (USW-DSS).    The proposal describes Northstrat’s vision for creating a 4D display and a data parser capability for USW-DSS. For the first time ever, the US Navy will be able to incorporate allied and coalition partner data into USW-DSS and should they decide, allow those same partners to be participants in the USW-DSS system. Northstrat’s proposed solution will allow coalition & allied partner ASW sensor data to support the planning and execution of the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) mission at both select shoreside facilities and afloat US Navy assets across the USW-DSS tactical network, improving overall/collective situational awareness of the undersea battlespace.     Novel USW-DSS functionality provided by Northstrat in this proposal:    Security display filtering: ability to dynamically match the classification level of data shown on the USW-DSS User Interface to the clearance level of coalition partners. Security Display Filtering makes it possible to demonstrate live operational data on the USW-DSS system to coalition partners visiting a US facility while ensuring that all information security policies are properly enforced.  Coalition 4D Display: the current USW-DSS data display is a two-dimensional map-based rendering. This SBIR topic directs proposals to design a four-dimensional (meaning 3D, video game engine-like display with the ability look back at historical data, allowing ASW operators to see how the ASW battlespace has changed over time, helping them better plan/predict future events. This display must be able to be shared with coalition partners.  Filtering Data Export to Coalition Partners: the system will ensure that data sent to coalition partners has been properly filtered to be fully compliant with all security policies and prevent data spills.  Data Parsing/Translation for Coalition Partner ASW Systems/Sensors: the system will provide the ability to exchange data with existing partner ASW systems and sensors which USW-DSS does not currently support. This data parser must be able to be shared with coalition partners.  Helping USW-DSS’s Evolution Towards a More Open, Modular, Standards-Based Architecture: by incorporating the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocol as a core component of the USW-DSS architecture, the USW-DSS system can more easily integrate other Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) military simulation and modeling software packages, a capability totally lacking in the current USW-DSS system.
