Description
This proposal is to develop a Cognitive Model-Based Integrated Display (CMBID) for alert monitoring and prioritization in EW. We are joined in this effort by subcontractor Valkyrie Enterprises, whose tactical knowledge, waterfront visibility and relationships with Fleet EW stakeholders will provide us with unique insight and understanding of the complex tactical problems in EW operator alert management, and will assure that we fully meet the Navy’s requirements. Our approach comprises two unique elements; these are: (1) Exploiting the latest cognitive models of human information processing under stress to analyze the EW operator’s task and to identify information presentation solutions compatible with human capabilities to coordinate cognitive processes and optimally respond to incoming information; and (2) Employing ecological Interface design methodology to achieve integrated monitoring displays and computational support elements that will optimize EW operator performance, reduce work load and increase combat efficiency. Our team has applied this approach successfully an EW Program of Record as well as in other defense domains, and thus offers a solution for low-risk development and rapid concept demonstration.
