Description
The US Navy has identified an urgent need for improved communications on Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV). PEM 406 seeks improved communications and GPS antennas for the Razorback UUV from HF (3 MHz) up to L-band (2.4 GHz). Physical Sciences Inc (PSI) proposes to develop a robust deployment system that elevates the communications antennas above the hull of the UUV when surfaced to improve signal and increase line-of-sight communications distance. The integrated antenna system will replace the multiple COTS antennas currently in use, which are rigidly mounted and too short for consistent LoS communications in elevated sea states. An integrated antenna solution will allow the user to achieve required antenna performance within the space claim and reduce system weight. PSI is partnering with a leader in the UUV market to develop a system that is ready to integrate with the Razorback MUUV.
