Description

RDRTec proposes to evaluate if the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) open avionics standard is a suitable choice for an open architecture environment that will support innovative mode designs for software defined radars. The FACE™ approach is a joint government-industry developed software standard and business strategy with the goals to: increase the affordability of capabilities and improve time-to-field, delivering new capabilities to the warfighter faster. The government lead for FACE™ is NAVAIR Combat Electronics program office (PMA-209) and RDRTec is a member of the FACE™ Consortium. To test the viability of combining FACE™ and SDR, RDRTec proposes to port our CADD (Coherent Airborne ¬Detection and Discrimination) mode to a FACE™ compliant environment. CADD is a high area rate of coverage surveillance mode designed to detect, track, and classify a variety of small and challenging maritime targets. Since CADD is currently configured for sensors either in the fleet today or planned to be in the fleet soon, it does not yet exploit the potential of SDR. As part of this project RDRTec proposes to augment CADD to add innovative, adaptive scheduling of advanced waveforms as a function of the characteristics/classification of detected targets and the environment.
