Description
In response to the Navy SBIR topic N202-144, Spectral Energies (SE) in collaboration with its partners at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) proposes to develop a computational approach that includes dynamic buckling to simulate the trajectory of long/slender projectiles during target penetration. During Phase I, the team will develop the modeling approach and demonstrate the feasibility. During Phase II, the results will be validated via experimentation. Then a database would be developed and converted into a simplified response surface model or artificial neural network (ANN) for quick analysis. The proposed model will help the Department of the Navy (DoN) and other Department of Defense (DoD) agencies identify critical conditions and parameters that cause instability. This understanding would help in the development and optimization of more effective projectiles. To complete this work, SE has built a team of experts in mechanics, soils, penetration modeling, advanced modeling techniques, commercialization and technology transition, etc.
