Description

The objective of this project is to survey mainstream as well as innovative ideas for providing calibration targets and calibration subsystems for RCS measurement radars. Proper calibration includes both gross RCS and polarimetric calibration. The concepts will include stationary instrumentation using a variety of target (e.g. mast-mounted trihedrals, Bruderhedrals) and mobile targets (e.g., balloons, calibration satellites, small UAVS inside Farraday cages). As well as targets, operational scenarios and likely operational constraints will be considered. For mobile targets, positioning requirements, using, for example, precision GPS, triangulation positional accuracy tolerances will be considered. The end objective of Phase I have a complete conceptual design and concept of operation for going to Phase II.
