Description

Permeability and permittivity are two parameters that can be altered to achieve miniaturization of the antenna. Research indicates that the microstrip antenna miniaturization limits are reached as permittivity values approach double digits. The field has typically altered the permittivity values, but the permeability is a harder parameter to alter. Altering permeability has several advantages – it allows for significant antenna miniaturization and explores various magneto-dielectric materials to artificially increase the permeability. In Phase I, we will study various critical parameters and their effect on increasing permeability and therefore reduction in the size of the conformal antenna. We will develop conceptual design, perform modeling and simulation to optimize several critical parameters, and develop prototype of the conformal antenna.
