Description

Adhesives/sealants/primers are widely used in missile production programs. The variability of the applied volume between operators as well as operator errors are known risk factors that have significant implications on performance, cost, and schedule. Triton Systems, Inc. proposes to develop a handheld, Repeatable Adhesive Application Tool (RAAT) for high- and medium-viscosity adhesives and sealants used in the missile defense systems that production personnel can quickly and easily use during production line operations on the manufacturing floor to apply accurate volumes of adhesives and sealants. The RAAT will enable greater standardization, reduction in process variability and improved performance consistency in these critical applications where there is zero tolerance for inconsistencies and a very high cost for addressing defects/faults. The tool will simplify operation, minimize operator errors, and provide greater traceability. This well-planned and directed effort will ensure rapid transition and broad implementation on missile programs, and subsequently on other defense programs more broadly.
