Description
SBIR Phase I proposal to demonstrate non-contact,non-destructive in-situ torque and fastener preload measurement for threaded fasteners such as nuts, bolts, and screws. Conventional NAS and SAE fasteners are used to demonstrate torque and preload sensing methods. Results are compared and validated with conventional torque wrench measurement, ultrasonic bolt elongation measurements, and cross-checked with strain gauge measurements using conventional tensile testing methods. Operating parameters and engineering models are developed for validation by fastener testing. SBIR Phase I Option applies novel torque sensing methods to conventional nuts and lock nuts.
