Description
CarbonCycle is a Waste to Value company. We have developed a system that converts carbon-based waste--scrap tires, mixed plastics, used oil, bio-waste, paper, and wood (to name a few)--into valuable and usable products via our proprietary Advanced Pyrolysis technology. Our system implements a closed loop solution, creating valuable, reusable carbon and oil based products (including critical chemicals and minerals) through thermal conversion of waste with zero harmful emissions and net positive energy. Our immediate focus in the commercial sphere is the scrap tire problem persistent throughout the United States. We have built a prototype system at our headquarters in Mansfield, MO and have received commitments for funding to scale that system up to begin to tackle the tire problem. We also have several large customers committed to purchase systems from us (or poised to do so) to convert their own waste into value. Following a successful SBIR Phase 1 feasibility study we have clearly identified specific waste management needs and objectives within the DoD and at the Air Force base level that our technology could provide a solution for with several adaptations. Specifically, those needs are tied to Executive Order 13834 and the DoD 2019 Sustainability Plan which boil down to base level sustainability goals and needs. Those base-level needs are clearly identified as the ability to localize the destruction and demilitarization of waste streams to locally meet sustainability objectives, streamline the logistics of waste and turn a cost of disposal for bases into a stream of revenue through value extraction from the waste. Our proposal for Phase 2 is to conduct the necessary research and development on those specific adaptations to bring our technology to the base as a localized, value-extracting waste destruction and demilitarization tool. Our project objectives are clearly tied to five specific adaptations—multiple feedstocks, capacity scalability, system mobility, value-add offtake development and technology integration—which we will work through design-build-test cycles over the 16-month period of performance to develop and perfect. Our work will be completed at our Missouri facility where we will work together with our End User / Customer from McConnell AFB (and additional staff) on the identified adaptations and further on an implementation strategy to move our technology to a Phase 3 contract. Our team has 35+ years of experience working on Waste-to-Energy facilities. We also have the entrepreneurial experience, financial backing and commercial traction required to make both the commercial and DoD applications of our technology a success. The project proposed is well within the scope of the available contract limits and we are excited to work with the McConnell AFB team to see it through.
