Description
SHEATH is a connected, wearable electronics docking pouch that makes connecting a peripheral electronic device to the body-worn Soldier Power And Data Electronic System (SPADES) fast, easy, secure, and safe. SHEATH consists of a self-aligning, blind-mating, sealed, and universally fitting power/data connection for rapid one-handed and eyes-free connection and a lightweight MOLLE-compatible fabric pouch to hold and protect any Army-compatible device. Our approach to design and demonstrate SHEATH is founded on an iterative industrial design (ID) approach (centered on operational, user, and manufacturability constraints). The proposed effort will result in a universal docking pocket for rotary aircrew personal devices that enables easy storage, access, charging, and syncing of critical body-worn aircrew electronics.
