Description

In response to SBIR 19.2, A19-137, “Army xTechnology Search Dual-Use Technologies applicable to Army modernization priority areas”, and to specifically protect against an adversary’s ability to exploit our information, Cogitari proposes a radio frequency over fiberoptic (RFoF) distributed antenna system (DAS) with broadband RF threat detection capabilities. Initially developed by a US government agency and Cogitari under a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA), the RFoF DAS transports RF in the 10 KHz through 40 GHz range and is currently configured for high-fidelity spectrum monitoring from 450 MHz to 6 GHz. With its ability to differentiate between known, authorized signals and unknown, unauthorized signals, the RFoF DAS is presently providing TS/SCI WIFI and cellular services inside an operational SCIF. Under this SBIR, Cogitari proposes to augment the existing RF transport and monitoring capabilities with innovative software and software defined radios that will automate the detection, characterization, and mitigation of cyber security and electronic warfare (EW) threats. This innovation will increase the flexibility, resilience, and security of fixed and deployable (tactical) networks. Additionally, the associated RFoF transceivers and multiplexers offer opportunities to reduce dependence on heavy, lower performing copper-based distribution systems such as those involving coax cable, terrestrial repeaters, and waveguides.
