Description

Next Generation Combat Vehicles are demanding increase power and energy density to advance current offensive and defensive weaponry (Direct Energy Weapons and Active Protection Systems. While lithium ion batteries are improving energy capacity and power supplies, there is an increase safety risk due to thermal runaway which can cause electrolyte combustion or even explosion. Energy Storage Systems (ESS) have been developed to mitigate these hazards, but also add significant weight and volume to the battery pack. CRG plans to address these issues with a battery cell chemistry capable of safe long-life operation and high power and energy density. The developed plan will integrate safe cathode and anode materials with a novel non-flammable electrolyte.
