Description

The Marine Corps requires an Expeditionary Mobile Recycling Facility (MRF-X) to support the material supply needs for additive manufacturing and extrusion in remote and austere environments. The MRF-X will allow for in-situ resource utilization of existing waste materials including PET water bottles and failed 3D prints by re-processing these materials for use in additive manufacturing or injection molding. The requirement is to provide a functional MRF-X in a 20-foot ISO container that can be run by a single, non-expert operator. This project will bring together technology developed by CRG and others including a commercial equipment manufacturer to create a fully-functional mobile recycling facility capable of automated reclamation of a range of materials including PET.
