Description

Future Lunar scientific missions would need to operate in environments with temperatures spanning ndash;230 C to +120 C. Utilizing conventional secondary Li-ion cells under these conditions requires strict thermal management (-20 to +40 C) to maintain the required performance. Such thermal management systems add complexity and consume valuable energy, mass and volume. Batteries with extended temperature range can reduce or eliminate the thermal management needs, reducing complexity and weight.Cornerstone Research Group proposes to develop the Extreme Environment Battery based on superelectrolyte chemistry and advanced materials to meet NASArsquo;s power needs in extreme temperature environments. nbsp;
