Description
A Duocel® metal foam liner is a compelling single-component multi-function solution capable of reducing cost, weight, and complexity of aircraft turbofan engines. Conventionally available material options require the use of three separate single-function solutions for acoustic liner, blade-containment, and heat shield components, which limits the design space for more fuel-efficient, quieter, and safer aircraft. The ERG Aerospace and Wichita State University team propose an innovative solution in response to the Aviation Energy section of the Advanced Power Technology Office of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Focus Area 13.
