Description

The objective of the Quantitative Assessment of Unintended Emissions in Microelectronics (QUANTUEM) proposal is to develop an innovative hardware-and-data-centric-combined approach to enable physical modeling for the prediction, validation, and assessment of multiple unintended second-order effects.  The information generated will enhance hardware assurance in the design of microelectronics at the pre-fabrication, post-packaging stage, and throughout the lifecycle.  The results of this effort are commercially viable and sustainable, and will be easily transitioned to highly engaged end-users.  These end-users already utilize the established electronic design automation (EDA) tools that will be enhanced and leveraged for this effort. The approach is to establish complex workflows which will enhance, extend, and validate the current state-of-the-art commercial physical modeling and EDA simulation tools.   This tool-of-tools approach requires the ability to transfer data between different software tools and repositories within the government funded, “Distributed Transition Environment,” and will apply risk-based metrics that take into account each individual assessment. Secure provenance tracking methods will be implemented to capture the exact chain-of-custody of IP, so that chip designs and design environments can be confidently recreated exactly for customer security assessments, validation, failure analysis, design update, or for retrofit.
