Description

Inertial Labs proposes the research and development of WOM-BAT, Weapon Orientation Module – Ballistic Accuracy Advanced Technology, as a universal solution to high-accuracy determination of weapon orientation across all classes of indirect fire weapons. Leveraging Inertial Lab’s OptoWOM (optically-enhanced weapon orientation module) and Mortar Systems Test Rig (MSTR, 81mm mortar) as a springboard in Phase I, WOM-BAT will redefine the state of what’s possible through non-contact measurement and estimation of indirect fire weapon orientation under strenuous conditions in austere environments. Through the proposed effort, WOM-BAT’s underlying principles, limits of performance, design, and feasibility will be investigated. When developed, WOM-BAT technology will offer sub-mil accuracy in weapon orientation and a two (2) orders of magnitude reduction in SWaP-C relative to current methods. It shall integrate seamlessly with OptoWOM’s computer vision system to provide indirect fire teams with significantly improved knowledge of their weapon state and a new capability to maintain operational effectiveness during periods of GPS denial. WOM-BAT’s POSE Cam (Position and Orientation Sensing Enabled Camera) will offer standalone capabilities for understanding where it is operating, what relevant objects it is viewing, and how those objects are themselves oriented relative to the surrounding environment.
