Description

A hidden chamber in a room may contain various articles including electronics, weapons, people, and objects of interest. Detecting hidden chambers is critical for Special Forces. The gated LFMCW MIMO SAR based hidden chamber detector developed under this program is not only low SWaP and handheld, but has adequate working range. It will provide hidden chamber detection, behind wall human and objects detection, underground utility detection, and localization capability for many military and civil applications. The techniques applied in this system include LFMCW radar, gated radar, MIMO antenna, and near field SAR imaging. The prototype can scan the wall, ceilling, and floor at a range longer than 2 meters. It can identify hidden chambers in a variety of sizes behind a brick, cinder block walls, and concrete floor. Besides the direct application of the detecting hidden chamber and objects behind the wall, similar sensors can be applied for underground utilities and airborne targets detection and localization. The proposed system has large potential customers, and the commercialization strategy will start opening marketing visibility of the resultant technology to the Special Forces and later pivot to its existing DoD customers especially the Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center.
