Description
To address the Army’s need for a cost-effective, millimeter-wave communication system for use in Anti-Access and Area of Denial (A2AD) environments, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to advance the development of the new extremely high-bandwidth Covert Millimeter-Wave Link (COMWEL) system proven feasible in Phase I. COMWEL is based on an optimized waveform design that allows for use of the large allocated bandwidths to create high data rate communication links while ensuring covertness using various methods that minimize the probabilities of detection or interception (LPD/LPI). COMWEL integrates state-of-the-art technologies and is enhanced by application-specific techniques including waveform, beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), frequency agility, modulation and coding, adaptive equalization, and precoding to ensure reliable communication and to guard against interference, interception, detection, and jamming. COMWEL adapts the communication link parameters to the channel conditions and maintains secure high-bandwidth data link between stationary and/or on-the-move systems in contested/congested environments. In Phase II, ISI will finalize COMWEL development and construct, evaluate, and demonstrate the operation of a TRL-5/6 system prototype incorporating the covert communication techniques developed in Phase I and meeting the Army requirements. ISI will deliver the COMWEL prototype to the Army for testing of its LPD/LPI and anti-jamming capabilities in A2AD environments.
