Description

To address the Navy’s need for sensors to monitor the environment near rocket motors for better evaluation of motor health and aging trends, Intellisense Systems, Inc. proposes to develop a new Autonomous Modular Sensor Array (AMSA) based on (a) a novel modular design that provides customizable and reconfigurable sensor configurations in a small form-factor capable of fitting in confined spaces of current missile systems, and (b) novel integration of ultralow-power electronics in combination with adaptive frequency signal sampling, which supports long service time (>10 years) and long periods of unattended operation (18 to 24 months). As a result, the AMSA will provide a reliable, autonomous, self-powered, multiparameter sensor array enabling the predictive analysis and health monitoring of rocket motors. In Phase I, Intellisense will demonstrate the feasibility of the AMSA by developing its general architecture and technical concept, designing and fabricating a laboratory-scale prototype, and demonstrating the major functionalities of the sensor array. In Phase II, Intellisense plans to develop a fully functional AMSA prototype, perform laboratory testing to validate its operation, and test material compatibility to ensure survivability of AMSA over long periods of time.
