Description

To address the Army’s need for an integrated sensor architecture to enhance indirect fires and eliminate the need for spotting rounds, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Targeting and Geolocation Sensor System for Indirect Fires (TAGSIF) based on a novel integration of inertial sensors, COTS optical sensors, and automatic target recognition and geolocation algorithms. Specifically, the innovation in using drone-deployable modular optical sensors featuring advanced imaging algorithms as a mesh network will enable the repurposing of soldiers from the forward observer role. As a result, this system offers a “bolt-on” mortar gun barrel enhancement to improve aiming accuracy to that of 120mm systems and a targeting and geolocation capability for operations in GPS-denied environments, which directly address the Army’s requirements. In Phase I, ISI will design the TAGSIF integrated sensor architecture, unified by a common language, and demonstrate TAGSIF’s forward observer role by showcasing algorithms for automatic target detection, geolocation, and effects feedback. In Phase II, ISI plans to develop a technology demonstrator for the integrated TAGSIF system and refine the design to interface with current Army fire control systems. We will verify and validate TAGSIF’s capabilities at both the component and integrated system level.
