Description
To address the Navy’s need for a submarine conductivity, temperature, and depth sensor for high accuracy ocean environment measurements, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Submarine Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth (SubCTD) system. It will utilize high accuracy sensing elements with custom preamplifier and data acquisition electronics for communicating vital ocean environment information to applicable submarine systems. In addition, the system will utilize a custom mechanical housing specifically designed and optimized to efficiently sample water from the ship’s free stream for an accurate representation of the surrounding ocean environment. An iterative approach of design, flow dynamics simulations, component fabrication, and experimental verification cycles will serve to provide the Navy with a fully optimized system for specific SSBN/SSGN/Columbia class submarines. In Phase I, ISI will demonstrate the feasibility of the SubCTD technology through design, assembly, and demonstration of the major subunits of the SubCTD technology as well as a fully assembled prototype. In Phase II, ISI plans to design, fabricate, and test a fully integrated prototype system and demonstrate the system will fit into the existing sea chest and verify the performance criteria is met.
